Cyber harassment study reveals the unsurprising!
It still amazes me that I talk to guys who still think they get harassed just as much as women online. Like even from people who aren’t clearly and totally gross dumbasses. It kinda makes me think that, even in the best cases, it might be hard to really understand the sheer difference in frequency. You see a woman get harassed on a game and you go “Oh well I’ve been harassed” without understanding that there is seldom a session for her where that doesn’t happen or understanding what her inbox might look like…

That is a sort of stunning degree of difference.

"The data’s in! Women were lying about online harassment!”
"Aha! We knew it!"
“Yeah, they’ve been severely underreporting how bad things are for them, turns out.”
"Wait, what?"

sexuality does not make you more or less interesting

being gay doesn’t make you more exciting

being straight doesn’t make you boring

please stop equating queer sexualities and identities with exciting and special snowflake and better, because that’s just as dehumanizing as erasing them

I’m gonna straight up be honest with you, Kristen: this is kind of offensive.

1. Don’t use the word queer. You’re cishet, that’s not your word to use. (A  better term would be lbgtqia+).

2.You don’t get to speak on the nuances of ~dehumanizing~ or erasing lbgtqia+ identities because you are not queer.

Secondly, we’re already aware that sexuality does not make a person more or less interesting - but the thing is? We hear this from cishet ppl constantly. We already hear that our identities don’t make us ~special~ or more interesting. We’re told that we’re not different from cishet people (while simultaneously being marginalised and shit on by cishet people FOR being queer). We’re told to stop “shoving our sexuality” into other people’s faces — when all we do is have the nerve to exist.

As someone who is not straight, my sexuality is important to me and it makes up a part of my identity. Lbgtqia+ people having lbgtqia+ headcanons and characters is not using sexuality as a throwaway quirk — we’re creating our own representation because we get fucking scraps compared to what straight ppl get.

So yeah. This? No. This is not okay for you — especially you being so popular in fandom — this is not an okay thing for you to say  and I am 100% not cool with it.

wait why is queer not ok for straight people to use?
what?

Don’t forget we have to wake up Green Day tomorrow.

Ok just a reminder to everyone: If you’re planning on tweeting billie joe armstrong “wake up” or something tomorrow, DON’T. The song is about his father’s death and so it’s really personal and treating it like a joke isn’t the right thing to do. Plus he’s asked so many times for people to stop and no one listens so yeah. Please don’t do that.
